Holidays, 2020 style

Image
This year was odd. This Christmas was different. This week is our 8th wedding anniversary, and we will be enjoying Thai take out and a virtual Dock Street Theatre performance of A Christmas Carol . I don't know what to expect for New Years, but I suspect our celebrations will involve pajamas and bed by 9p. I'm okay with that. We did try our best to prepare for the cold weather and outdoor, distanced visits this holiday season. We decided a month or so ago we were going to build a large patio in our backyard, complete with fire pit and cafe lights--this was Michael's and my Christmas and Anniversary gift to each other. (A note: a true gift would be hiring professionals to do the work for you). After weeks of back breaking labor, several attempts to successfully mount the cafe lights, and much research on the best patio furniture for our space, we are about 95% there and officially on a first name basis with all Lowe's employees! Digging to lay the base. Leveling and layi...

Baby Girl + Thanksgiving

On November 5 Maggie turned one! I can hardly believe I have a one year old--I have photos of Maggie popping up in my FB memories. It's surreal. We had a quiet day with some photos, a Moana viewing (of course), and a little Chick-fil-a lunch and smash cake. Update: she is not a fan of cake, just like her Mama. Since it is the season of giving, I thought I'd share just a few of our (and Maggie's) absolute favorites, day to day: Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Stroller First, this stroller . I cannot adequately express my gratitude for this stroller. I've never used another, but the jogger style wheels, lightweight and simple design, combined with the fact that I can collapse and expand it easily by myself in a busy parking lot constitute a winner in my book. Plus, it's just over $100 right now, and I believe it was listed at an even lower price when we registered for it, which seems pretty reasonable these days. LectroSound White Noise Machine Next up, this white noise ...

Birthday Month!

Image
October is one of my favorite months. Both my parents and I have birthdays this month, I love Halloween, and some semblance of Fall might finally begin to make its way into the muggy Charleston air. Chili, bonfires, pumpkins, sunflowers, squash--what's not to love? In this month's post, I thought I'd share the purchases/gifts that I have enjoyed most this year. I'm a new mom, I just turned 30, and things around here have changed pretty drastically. First up: Clothing. Gone are the days of office attire or business casual. My days are now full of crawling on the floor, laundry, dishes, spilt milk, and soggy puffs. I also said goodbye to my pre-baby figure, so I was in need of some new clothes that offered stretch, support, and durability. These leggings from Victoria's Secret are the best I've found. I've tried Fabletics, Amazon, and Walmart, but these take the cake. I love the fit, I love the breathability, and I love the length and pockets. I'm still a...

Status Update

It is both difficult and exciting to believe September is coming to a close. I'm a little late with the blog post this month, but I don't like to start any project until I have a clear picture of my desired outcome, with all details gathered and in place. Fall is officially here and we have been enjoying cooler temps in Charleston after some marginal hurricane weather last week. Michael and I were able to get out in the yard sans infant and fully prepare to enjoy some cool Fall evenings on the porch. That has been one of the nice things about quarantine. Finally tackling house projects that have been put off for years, spending more quality time together, and getting to watch Maggie grow daily. Fall's arrival is bittersweet this year. Our family has so many birthdays, including Maggie's first birthday, not to mention Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's--they are all going to look so different this year. It has been very difficult to redefine my expect...

Home Update

Image
So, back in May I gave you a little glimpse in this post of some of the work we'd done on the back porch and in the yard to be able to enjoy it in all of our time at home this Summer. We have done just that and made a few more "improvements" around the home that have really sparked joy for our family. I thought I'd give a little picture heavy update to break up the monotony of all the words and thoughts so widely available and readily found on social media in this strange and wearing time. To recap: this was right after the fence was put up and we'd spent some serious quality time weeding, tilling, and laying pavers. Look at that growth!  Historically, I've had a pretty black thumb. I have been thrilled to pieces with the success we've had this Summer! From L to R: Lemongrass, Lemon Balm, Marigold. (Don't mind the overgrown grass/weeds--baby steps, right?) This is my favorite little patch: Mint and Bell Peppers!!  On a whim, I planted the inner core/s...
