Road Trip and a Wedding!

Image
This past weekend Michael and I hopped in the car and headed to Asheville for the weekend for our friends' wedding. Get a look at that glorious Spring weather, would ya?  Almost there!  We got there just in time for the rehearsal Friday night at Homewood , where both the ceremony and reception took place.  Certain everybody had their part down, we hit Asheville Pizza and Brewery for a low key rehearsal dinner with the wedding party and family of the soon-to-be newlyweds.  At APB. You'll have to excuse the Instagram quality photo. Not only was Saturday wedding day, but it was also Michael's 23rd birthday! He chose to watch approximately 4.6 hours of cats and dogs on Animal Planet, followed by lunch at Olive Garden before the festivities. Typical boy stuff. What a day. And beautiful weather for it, too. Low 40s and rainy. Fortunately the showers finished up early and the sun came out in time for the ceremony and pictures outside....

The art of conflict

I would argue that the best tip Michael and I got to start our marriage off on the right track (besides reading tons of Dave Ramsey's work and chatting about our future goals) was to listen to Senior Pastor Tommy Nelson of Denton Bible Church in Texas speak on Song of Solomon.  Michael and I downloaded and listened to the series on our honeymoon, actually, and I can say with all confidence that it made our honeymoon a success.  Anyone looking to get married, already married, or who happens to know and interact with other people should definitely hear this guy speak. Obviously we two honeymooners were intently focused on nuggets of wisdom Nelson had to offer regarding intimacy and the joy of being married, but recently our class at church has begun studying the same series and I was struck by the insight Solomon and Tommy Nelson provided on the art of conflict.   If you are truly invested in a relationship with another human being for whom you care a great deal, yo...

Ch-ch-ch-changes

I am just now getting around to actually writing and working on the blog because our lives have undergone quite a bit of construction in the last few weeks. I was working at Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine after we got back to Atlanta as an editorial intern.  I was continuing the dreaded job search in anticipation of the internship's end.  Instead, I happened to apply for just the right position with just the right company at just the right time, and in all of one week I'd submitted my resume, completed a phone interview, trekked out to the office, met the crew, been offered the position, accepted, and left the magazine. Whew.  I am now a sales research assistant with a computer software company called ClickDimensions. Did I mention we're also packing and moving?  No big deal. So I was having pretty consistent freak out sessions whenever I stopped to think (or breathe), when Michael comes home with the news that both his co-workers are leaving, so he will soo...

Home decorating

Image
Like most of my friends, I spent the majority of my preteen and teen years designing and decorating my future dream home. I've got an entire Pinterest board to prove that I still do spend a good deal of my time on the task. So when we moved into our first "home" (a small apartment with basically two rooms) I was surprised to find myself struggling to pull it all together like I'd imagined. I couldn't seem to find a common thread among the collection of hand me downs and college leftovers, surprise. Now we are moving into a slightly bigger apartment (a whopping fifteen extra square feet, yo) and I'm hoping that I have learned some things from my early decorating attempts here.  I've already started researching color palettes and guess what? I actually found one with a majority of the colors of our belongings! Check it out: I'm also hoping that with more space it will feel less like a storage unit and we will be able to spread our belongings s...
