It's...over?

I can't believe it's already May. We've reached temperatures in the 80s outside, our flowers are blooming and birds are chirping, and the mask mandate has been lifted in Mt. Pleasant. I'm happy about 2/3 of those facts.

I'm loving being able to gather safely with vaccinated family members. It has done my heart a world of good and has soothed my soul in a way I'd almost forgotten it could. Mother's Day this year was a real treat, just being able to share it with the other important mothers in my life--my mom, grandmother, and now sister in law! Having our kiddos and gathering together for the first time ever was a true blessing. I will forever cherish these memories and feelings of sincere gratitude and joy.

It was particularly cheering to see these beautiful faces after losing one of the greatest women I've ever known, my great aunt Margaret (for whom Maggie is named). After just shy of 95 full years on this Earth, she finally gets to rest and join her husband, sister, and other friends and family who preceded her in passing. I know she got to do everything she wanted and more and was quite worn out, but it is never easy to remain behind and feel the absence of such a strong and established presence. We will celebrate her life and remember her with family and friends later this month. She leaves quite a legacy of gracious hospitality and fun times.

Margaret Elizabeth Sease Jayroe (b. 1926) and Margaret Elizabeth Hardee (b. 2019).

With sister, Belvin (d. 2012).

I hope all of the mothers and mother figures out there had a beautiful Mother's Day and everyone is taking care and enjoying this beautiful Spring. Stay safe and maintain any boundaries you feel necessary as we transition to a new "normal" after over a year of quarantine, masks, and social distance.

Best,
Emily
