Snowpacolypse 2014
Hello there. It's been a while, I know. This has been my worse lapse yet and I apologize. Since all of Atlanta and much of the Southeast has been shut down due to this inclement weather, Michael and I have both been working from home the past 2 days and I've had much more time to work, clean, organize--basically do some damage control around the house.
Pros of the weather: Getting to spend more time with Michael, who is kind of ridiculous when he sees snow, being that he's never lived north of Charleston, SC. We made about four dozen chocolate chip cookies from scratch, did a puzzle, caught up on TV shows, and I plan to teach him how to almost dominate in Clue (can't give away all my secrets but I'll help him out). I've also gotten to talk to several family members and friends, more than I usually would in a whole year, in just 2 days. This is what this super introvert likes to call a pro/con. I know I'm loved, and sometimes would rather be left alone (though I would be very sorry to keep you guessing whether I'm one of those unfortunately still stranded on the roads).
Cons: My car is somewhere about 4 miles from here where I abandoned it without hesitation and walked home to avoid the horrendous traffic that has been in place since noon on Tuesday. Also, it is very hard to have conference calls and balance accounts with an avid Call of Duty player and a restless kitten on my hands.
So a little update on our lives since before my impromptu hiatus. We got back from the holidays on New Years Day and went straight back into normal life, which was neither easy nor fun. We pretty much immediately found out that our beloved cat, Rachael, had terminal cancer and most of January has been spent going back and forth between vets and animal hospitals and just trying to make her as comfortable as possible. We said goodbye to her last Sunday, which was sad, but it went as smoothly as it possibly could have and she knew without a doubt that she was loved. She was the best kitten I've ever met and we were so grateful to be able to enjoy her for her beautiful, if brief, life.
We're still struggling to get back to 'normal' with all the changes and transitions, and this storm did not exactly help, but it has been nice to have to stop and stay home together for a while. It's been a bonding and learning experience for all, to say the least. And you finally get caught up. So, perhaps not so terrible. We continue to pray for those just getting to safety and relief, and those northerners who deal with some form of this on the regular and may be feeling left out about now. I don't envy you. You can have your weather back now.
Hope everyone is safe and warm, enjoying family and friends. Looking forward to warmer weather.
