Happy Holiday Season

This is my favorite time of the year. The end of Fall through New Year's. I love that I get to spend so much time with family and I love the warm smells, cozy surroundings and decorations, and that most everyone's disposition is improved overall this time of year. I think aside from summer vacations it can be the happiest time of the year, and the most relaxing if you're fortunate and great with time management. I start thinking about Christmas shopping months in advance and hardly ever find myself in a bind with just a few days left until Christmas and I like to keep decorations simple and organized - easy to pull out, easy to put back. I'm most excited about our family Christmas card this year and our anniversary. My family has done a family photo card every year since I was born, making us officially a family. I've actually looked forward to this since we got engaged, getting to send out a card of our own. Dumb, maybe, but a milestone for sure. They say the f...

It feels like we haven't stopped to sit down in a few weeks here (it feels like we hardly ever stop to sit down). But I was driving home today from work and it hit me how crazy it is that I'm here. We've been married for almost a year now, and we're heading to my second homecoming as an alumna this weekend (from a university I declared I would never attend, mind you). Also, I'm an accountant. In Atlanta. Something I never, ever thought I'd be doing, in a city I never, ever thought I'd live. It's so funny to step back and see how life has changed since I last sat back to check out the view. It's been so exciting and nerve wracking to be on this roller coaster. I have learned that I literally never can tell what will happen next. And I've become more comfortable with that notion than I ever thought I could be. I'm a planner, a list maker, a budgeter. It's crazy how God has led me to let go of the reigns and just trust him to get me where ...
Family Visit

My mom had a conference in Atlanta this past weekend, so my dad decided to tag along and we got to enjoy yet another birthday weekend in October. It was great to see them both and we really enjoyed way too much delicious food, football, and napping (Mom had lectures all day every day, so I hung out with the boys. Not complaining). We had burgers, pizza, wings, diner food, brazilian steaks, italian, and a healthy breakfast to end the weekend on a high note. These two... It was good to see them, and really weird to have them visit us at home in Atlanta. I really appreciated the laid back South Carolina demeanor taking control of our typical busy Atlanta weekends. I would love a little more of that in my life. Getting back to real life this cold Monday morning was really no fun at all. But I intend to compensate with a little crocheting and some quality cat time (who, by the way, also quite enjoyed lazy afternoon naps with dad).

My favorite month. The month I was born. Also my mom was born this month. And my dad. And it's halloween. And the peak for Fall colors, as the last warm winds make way for the cooler ones which will take us from here through Spring. Can you tell I like October? I also like birthdays. And this one was particularly remarkable. It actually came and went without a lot of fuss, almost sneaking right by me. But everyone else seemed to remember it. I was completely overwhelmed by the cards and birthday wishes I received from new friends and old. Michael even had a slide on the televisions at Tuesday night bible study letting everyone know, since he has class Tuesday nights this quarter and can't be there. It was pretty amazing and I felt loved, to say the least. What was my birthday wish? To go to Ikea. So we did. Last Friday night Michael and I made the trek into Atlanta to visit this Swedish furniture super store of which everyone speaks. And they are not just whis...

I am aware that it has, again, been a whole month since I last posted. We've been busy (when are we not?) with friends and work, but also making a few much needed changes around the apartment. We had a few friends over a while back and realized that we only have two dining chairs (awkward) and I usually ended up sitting on the floor somewhere (big fun). So we decided that since we are working an a limited space with a limited budget, we just needed to figure out how to redesign what we already have to make it work. And here's what we came up with (get ready for a photo overload, and please take note that I did in fact get my act together and locate and learn to use the real camera): This beautiful chest was a gift from Michael's dad, he made it for us as a wedding present. It was shoved in a corner in our room, but now it serves as extra seating, storage, and eye candy in the dining room. Perfect. It's already drawn a few compliments. Isn't that ni...
Greenville

Last weekend Michael and I went to Greenville to meet one of my best friends and her boyfriend for lunch as they were heading up to Michigan. Sounds weird, I know. But both came from Boston, one to Charleston, driving up to Greenville to get the other on their way north. Anyway, we had a really great time catching up, joking around, and overall just enjoying each other's company (and great food). It was kind of like the good old days (except plus one, in a different location, and instead of marching band or college exams, the conversation consisted largely of traffic, job searching, and budgets). This is really the only picture I took all weekend. I'm sorry. One day I'll get my act together. I discovered on this trip how much I really miss my best and closest friends (scattered all over the Eastern US since we've graduated). I cannot, in truth, say that I enjoy being so far from them or catching up so rarely due to my complete distaste for telephones. I t...
Cleanin' Out My Closet

This past weekend (this whole quarter) was a really busy one for Michael. He's had a lot of projects, which means a lot of studio time and editing in his "free" time when he's not at work or in class. He spent most of Saturday in the studio and the rest of Saturday editing for Sunday morning, so I got lots of alone time. As an introvert who has been 'on' the last few weeks this did not bother me one bit. I did not make any plans with friends, but I did do something I consider highly enjoyable. I got to clean out our closet. We went to Costco and hit the jackpot. Those wonderful, velvet covered hangers that people have been going on about on Pinterest and certain blogs can be found in bulk, for cheap at Costco. And right next to them? 3 packs of clear plastic bins. You bet I grabbed some of those and went to town. Before: Both of our clothes, shoes, luggage, mess. But these girls and I worked really hard all afternoon. ...
