The Beach
I love the beach. I dislike bikinis, I don't tan easily, and, quite frankly, there's something about the combination of sunscreen and sweat that sets my sensitive skin aflame. I still love the beach.
I've spent most of my life at the beach, and while I don't appreciate the things that others may find most exciting or enjoyable about it, I've learned that it can be as dynamic a place as the people who visit. Especially in the Winter, the shore is usually deserted and serene. It's one of my favorite times to be there.
Being highly sensitive, when life comes at me fast and I'm feeling overwhelmed, there is very little more comforting or calming than fresh air and ocean sounds. Particularly during times of transition, or when life does not go according to plan, I find a moment of peace in the sunshine on the sandy shore. A place where I can go to breathe and escape, with not a person, sound, or obstacle in sight.
In the spirit of full disclosure: the beach in the Winter is not warm. It looks warm, but do not be fooled. That wind has a bite and you best be prepared. I recommend blankets and Starbucks.
